The Executive Chairman of Lagelu local government, Hon. Mudashiru Kamorudeen has congratulated Nigerians on what he termed 25 unbroken years of democratic journey.
In a statement release by his office in commemoration of the Nigerian democracy day, the council chairman maintained that a 25 years of journey in democratic government, though limited in scope— is an accomplishment of sort.
The statement partly reads;
It’s June 12: Democracy Day! We may not yet be where we had envisaged when we set out on this path in 1999; but warts and all, we have managed to sustain this democracy project for 25 unbroken years! That’s no mean achievement!! Democracy is a process, anyway, not a destination.
If we manage to call up the requisite courage for reinventing Nigeria – in the direction of federalism, consistent with its plural orientation- our country may begin to attain to the full measure of democracy, with its promises of stability, development, and happiness for all our people, without regard to ‘tribe and tongue.’
Happy Democracy Day, he remarked.
